My tutor gave me some great feedback on each of the images and the series as a whole. One word stuck in my mind – “abstract” He commented; “The more abstract approach to these relatively ordinary objects is perhaps the key to the success of the series?”. The feedback makes more sense to me now looking back at the images. Once again I find that leaving a project alone for a while and coming back fresh can really help to clarify and focus.
I started looking at the first image of the series. Feedback had included getting closer, wider depth of filed and a more abstract frame.

Image ….81 (Fig.1) had the abstract verticals I was looking for in a possible new image and using a wider depth of field has helped to emphasis those verticals.

Feedback on the second and third images in the series suggested that the second image wasn’t contributing anything that the third image wasn’t doing and that perhaps the black tie id the most import aspect. Coming back and looking at this series after a break has made it much easier to see where it can be improved and looking at the images with a fresh eye helps to understand the feedback in a more objective way.

I was pretty unsure if any of these images were going to fit with the series so I decided to wait and bring them together once I have a few more possible images.
Image 4 feedback included highlighting the empty hanger. Certainly when I looked at this image again I realised how insignificant and hard to spot it actually was. Not my intention, but missed whilst being immersed in the project! I decided to go all out, and isolate it completely to see how much impact it would make.

Image ….92 had a nice vertical which went with image one. It isolated the and highlighted the emptiness of the hanger.

Comparing these images with the original for the assignment, I have very much gone down the abstract route. Most of the original images are uninspiring and boring! I seem to have been very literal in my approach. The new images are far more interesting and even though the original and the new images are telling the same story the new images are far more likely to pique someone’s interest and get them thinking and wondering what they are about.

I found that returning to the assignment after some time was really beneficial. I was able to see the images as with new eyes. Looking afresh at the images gave me a different and almost detached view of them. I was, perhaps seeing them as an outsider might. This also meant that I read the feedback with a more open mind.
